Specialty: Dr. Jones' research interests are in gamete and early embryo physiology. She uses micromanipulation, as well as molecular techniques to produce clones and transgenic livestock. Specifically, Dr. Jones studies the role DNA methylation plays in cellular differentiationin embryonic cells. Recently, Dr. Jones has received notoriety for her research on Fescue Toxicosis. Dr. Jones teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Genetics, Reproductive Physiology, and Animal Products and Processing.
Other:
Research Interests
· Changes in fatty acid composition in fescue seed and plants due to infection with endophyte.
· Changes in animal product's (milk and meat) fatty acid profiles due to consumption of endophytic fescue.
· Changes in ruminal microorganism populations in response to endotoxins.
· Large scale reproduction study on domperidone used to treat fescue toxicosis.
· Evaluate the safety of meat from cattle fed endophytic fescue.
· GMO safety: Evaluation of GMO corn/soybean varieties, corn/soybean processing methods and animal models (including microorganisms) for degradation of transgenes and possible gene transfer, especially at the level of ruminal microorganisms.
· Develop genetic markers to aid producers identify cattle with outstanding traits (heat tolerance, endotoxin resistance, meat fatty acid quality).
